From last class: Katie B. Influencer piece.

Satire is a genre or technique used to critique and expose the flaws, shortcomings, or absurdities of individuals, institutions, or society as a whole. It often uses humor, irony, exaggeration, and wit to make its point.

Secondary Example: Dream Job.

Key Aspects of Satire:

  1. Purpose: The main goal of satire is to provoke thought and encourage change by highlighting issues or problems in a way that is both entertaining and thought-provoking.

  2. Humor: Satire frequently employs humor to engage the reader and make the critique more palatable. E.g. playful exaggerations, witty remarks, or absurd scenarios.

  3. Irony: Satirical works often use irony, where the literal meaning of words or situations contrasts with the intended message.

  4. Exaggeration: By overstating or distorting certain features or behaviors, satire can underscore the ridiculousness or absurdity of a subject.

  5. Social Commentary: Satire typically addresses broader social or political issues, using specific examples to comment on more general truths or problems.
